Only about 5% to 15% of acne is found in adults over the age of 25 years old. In addition, combination antibiotic treatments have been found to treat more aggressive forms of adult acne. Clindoxyl contains both benzol peroxide and clindamycin, and Stievamycin contains erthromycin and benzoyl peroxide. Dermatologists might have newer combination treatments in the fight against adult acne as well. Retinoids such as Retin-A, Tazorac, Differen and Azelex have also shown some promise in getting rid of adult acne.

Laser and Chemical Peels to Get Rid of Acne

Chemical peels that may be too harsh for teenage skin often work very well to make pores smaller and eliminate adult acne. They peel off the first few layers of the epidermis to reveal fresher skin underneath. These peels should be done in a dermatologist office and may require extensive healing time. Laser treatments or pulse light can also be used to treat acne. These treatments are best performed by a professional dermatologist as well and may not be appropriate for more sensitive skin.
